Venice & Barcelona: comparing 2 bridges

image                           image

Bridge of Sighs (Venice, Italy)                                                                  Bridge of Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain)

Have you ever get the chance to compare the famous Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri) in Venice/Venezia (Italy) located very close to Piazza San Marco with the bridge in the Gotic area in Barcelona (Spain)? As you can see from the pictures they look  similar. The Bridge of Sighs in Venice was connecting the Palazzo Ducale with the Prisons and this was a way for prisoners to get to the executioner, from this the name.

The bridge in Barcelona, is located in the Borne Area, close to the Cathedral. In carrer del Bisbe we can find the Ponte del Bisbe which connects Casa dels Canonges with the edificio del Palau. Not many informations about the Pont del Bisbe as is called in Barcelona bult in one of the main streets of the old Roman city. Created during the dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera today is one of the most visited corners for pictures in Barcelona.

In Milano (Italy) city center, close to Cadorna Station, you can find a very nice corner. In Via Brisa in Milano there are indeed, rest from the Roman Empire in the 4th c. AD . An imperial palace was built in a huge area between the well known Via Meravigli and Via Torino.

Hidden Corners Barcelona: Raval

Another place to don't miss and that sometimes is underrated in is the "Rambla de Raval" in Barcelona (Spain) to don't confuse with the main Ramblas, you will see the big cat statue. This Rambla is situated just at 10-15 minutes distance from the city centre in the Ciutat Vella district. Delimited on the west side by the Ramblas and from the east by the Parallel with the Olimpic Game in the '92 this area has been revaluated with the installation of modern museums as MACBA and CCCB.

Hidden Corners Barcelona: Plaça del Pi

Map image

Barcelona is a city with many hidden corners, places difficult to discover in just a weekend if you don't get a good guide or know people from Barcelona (Spain). I only recently discovered the nice Plaça del Pi just besides the Ramblas even after several months living in Barcelona (Spain). It's located behind the Ramblas close to all shopping streets like Carrer Portaferrissa and Carrer  de la Boqueria metro stop Liceu. It's a very nice and little square with one of the hundred old churches you can find in the Barrio Gotico. Next to this square there is another small one where there are permanent painters, it really reminds me Montmartre in Paris. I think this place it worths to see!
